Marionette
Speak to me, my brother.
I did not say a word.
I dreamt of this throughout my life
A yearning to be heard.
Perverting my reflection,
The mirror spits back scorn
Stripped bare of my integrity
I'd kill myself for what I have forgone
I was well set to work here; but
My art has disappeared
Wiped clean of aspirations
My smile smeared ear to ear.
The floor spreads long my shadow
I thought I left behind.
My hands work furiously for my God
To carve a clutch of diamonds into swine.

Hold your scars in esteem.
You might just see this through.
I will rain down with steel
And wires on you!

Dance with me; pull my strings.
I thought we would share our wings.
Broke me down, rein me in.
I can only be your marionette.
Insult my achievements
Make me feel so low
Ride roughshod on my confidence;
This never-ending show.
My painted smile betrays me
The pain you breed within
Each night I curse my head of cloth
And pray I won't succumb; I won't give in.
Unscrew the bolts my brother!
Look to my wooden eye
Look deep within your human past
Breathe life to make me fly.
My arms and legs lay broken,
My death watched on the stage
The suns sets on my rotten dreams
The curtain falls, it seems I’m on my way.

Sleep and dream from a box
And don’t forget your cue!
I will rain down with steel
And wires on you!

Chauvinistic and
Anchored to the earth.
I will take the applause
It’s all I’m worth.
